Construction of Silverado began in 2005 after owners of Spruce Meadows pushed for a wetlands development to be established between the residential area and the show jumping facility.  The wetland development benefited both Spruce Meadows and Silverado as they both now enjoy the 7 acre wet pond and 80 acre natural reserve around the community. For those wanting to spend time outdoors, there are also over 9 kilometers of pathways throughout the community, tot lots and parks.

Green space in abundance is seen throughout the community of Silverado lending to that country feel however residents are still close to all the amenities available at Shawnessy Towne Centre including big box stores like Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Co-op as well as movie theatres, restaurants and smaller retail stores.  A little further up MacLeod Trail brings residents to South Centre Mall, Chinook Centre and downtown Calgary.
